INTRODUCTION

Omega Red is the online portfolio of South African designer Karen McDade. It includes various portfolios showcasing website design, print work, retouching and experimental images. Included is an extensive resources page filled with a few of the best links to design related websites that hopefully other designers may find useful.

As an established freelance communications designer I specialise in developing and designing online and print media from conception to completion. I do a great deal of print work and high-end retouching, as well as designing aesthetically attractive, fast loading, W3C compliant CSS based websites.

I conduct the majority of my work via the internet as many of my clients reside internationally - from the United Kingdom to the USA to South Africa. I have worked on a freelance basis for many years and have designed artwork for National Geographic, Discovery Channel, BBC, Sky Spots, Sky Arts, Pegasus Spiele, and Animal Planet to namea few.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION

I received a full scholarship to attend Charles University in Prague, Czech Republic where I studied communication science and philosophy. Additionally I have a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of South Africa. I have 10 years of practical design experience, 5 of which has been spent doing freelance design. I have studied graphic design extensively and am a strong believer in continual learning, and make a point to dedicate a percentage of my time to updating my knowledge bank of new design techniques and trends.
